| President Bush has said that he "takes responsibility" for the failures in dealing with Hurricane Katrina. Does anyone in the Bush White House know what it means to take responsibility for something? When Donald Rumsfeld took "responsibiliity" for the torture at Abu Ghraib, it did not signal that he was now owning up to war crimes and prepared to pay for his role in them. It simply meant that he was absolving the people under his command and sweeping the matter under the rug. If George Bush is personally and negligently "responsible" for the deaths of hundreds of people, shouldn't he be submitting his resignation any minute now? Or will Congress and the media simply allow this matter to be glossed over and forgotten, as well? Where is that Republican personal responsibility we keep hearing about? |
